Wax Weekend: Working Larger

Add Sun, Sept. 17, 1-4 pm for an optional open studio/critique after you've had a week to continue working on your own. $425 for all 3 days.
Here's what to expect for Sat/Sun, Sept. 9-10:
If you're excited (or nervous!) about scaling up your encaustic paintings then this is the perfect class for you. During this workshop you'll work on paintings big enough to push your comfort zone while we discuss the challenges and opportunities of working larger. We will talk about finding inspiration, subject matter, composition, tools, and display options including multi-panel pieces and working on flexible materials for easier storage/shipping.
Don't be intimidated!
Everyone's definition of "larger" will be different, so that could mean a 12 inch panel for one person and a 12 foot panel for someone else. In order to finish paintings within the weekend please bring 1 - 2 panels up to about 16 x 20 inches unless you prefer working in smaller multiples to create a larger final painting.
Make a plan.
It's a good idea to have some sort of a plan before you arrive so you can get right to work. I'll give you some simple examples of these after you register. You may work in any technique you're comfortable with as long as it's appropriate for my studio space and kind to your fellow artists (re: size/ventilation). I have outdoor areas available as necessary. After registration I'll contact you about what you have in mind so I can prepare your workspace with the tools you need.
Play with fire!
All basic materials will be available to you including encaustic medium, encaustic paint, brushes, pigment sticks, inks and collage papers, plus standard encaustic tools. For fusing I'll have embossing heat guns and propane torches. Using torches makes working larger go much faster so I encourage them, especially for this class. If you have a favorite torch please bring it. If you have not used torches before I'll get you comfortable working with them while emphasizing both creativity and safety.
Personalize your palette.
There will be room on each griddle for you to work directly on the surface. Feel free to bring your own paint if you want special colors, but I'll have most colors available from my private stash. Bring your own brushes or use mine if you prefer. I'll have paraffin available for cleaning too.
Find your tribe.
I keep my class sizes very small, a maximum of 6 students, so everyone can learn at their own pace. This allows me to help those with less experience get going in the right direction, while still challenging more experienced artists with advanced discussion and techniques. If you haven't painted with other artists before you'll find it's a magical experience where everyone learns more by working together.
Here's what to expect for Sun, Sept. 17:
After you've had a week to work on your own, you may have questions arise after working in your own studio. We'll start off the day with a discussion of your progress, successes and challenges. Consider this a directed open studio, where I'll work with each of you individually to answer questions you might have as you finish up your big beautiful panels! We can also discuss finishing, framing, signing and shipping your work as you work in the studio. Use this time to complete projects from earlier in the week or start new ones to continue after you return home full of new ideas!
Please bring 1 - 2 panels in whatever size you choose, up to about 16 x 20. You will receive detailed information on these as well as a list of optional items upon registration. Space is limited to 6 students and classes tend to fill very quickly.
If you need to split the class fee into more than one payment, you can save your spot by starting with a deposit.

Can't pay the full registration fee right now?
If you don't want to miss this class but can't pay the full registration fee right now you can pay a $200 deposit to hold your spot and pay the balance at least 30 days before the class begins. When I receive your deposit I'll contact you with additional information.

Cancellation and Liability Policies
- Cancellation at least 30 days before the class date = full refund minus $75 cancellation fee or you may apply your payment to another class.
- Cancellation less than 30 days before the class date = full refund minus a $100 cancellation fee only if the space is filled by another paying student.
- No show = no refund.
- By registering for this class you agree to assume all responsibility for non-refundable expenses including but not limited to travel and lodging. Travel insurance is encouraged.
If the workshop is canceled by the instructor, you will receive a full refund. If another instructor must be substituted for Linda Robertson due to illness or emergency you will have the option to attend the class with the substitute instructor or cancel/reschedule without penalty.
Should any injuries occur during or as a result of participation in any class or workshop, the registered student agrees to indemnify
and hold harmless Linda Robertson and all employees, instructors and volunteers connected with Linda Robertson Arts.
