Colorful Wax Scrolls

TBD, $225
Location: Portland, Oregon

I love capturing the translucency of light in my paintings, but it's even easier when working with wax and paper. The most dramatic way I've found to show this off is with my wax scrolls.

Join me to create multiple panels of paper and wax that are thin enough for natural light to penetrate, filling your space with energy and movement. In using paper we'll trade some durability for dynamism, but wait until you see the result! If you keep them indoors they will last for many years, but you can still decorate your garden with them on special occasions.

We'll add color with a variety of materials both before and after we wax, and we'll also add a simple hanger so your scroll ready to hang when you get home. I'll demonstrate how to cut out parts of your panels for a layered effect and how to reattach what you've removed for added texture and shadow.

You need to use a different wax recipe for paper than with rigid panels so I'll give you my favorite choices and explain why I would use one over the other for different situations.

All supplies will be provided. Most students leave class with 1-2 finished scrolls up to 3 feet long and several smaller pieces. These can all be rolled for easy transport! Confirmation, directions to my studio and additional information will be emailed to each student upon registration. Space is limited to 5 students so classes fill quickly.

Please note: I am fully vaccinated! Class will be held in my private studio in NE Portland and will be held following CDC COVID-19 protocols. To keep everyone safer, everyone who enters my studio must show proof of vaccination, and cannot participate in classes until two weeks after their final shot.

Following the recently updated mandates, masks will not be required and 2 artists will share a 6 foot table and one hotplate just like we used to. There may be up to 5 students in each class. I look forward to welcoming you back into my studio!
